Make additional housing options easier to understand

Help residents assess a second unit before spending on a project.

THE LOCAL STARTING POINT

Why this deserves a look.

Oxford County's My Second Unit program supports eligible secondary rental units. Its current page says the 2026 application window is closed and applications will reopen in 2027 as funding becomes available. A program's existence does not establish that a particular Norwich property qualifies or that funding is reserved.

A FUTURE WORTH EXPLORING

The possibility.

Create a local decision guide and optional information session covering planning checks, servicing, construction feasibility, rental responsibilities and applicable program conditions. Show who answers each question and keep funding status current. The goal is to help residents investigate practical options, without promising approvals or financial returns.

What could improve

  • Help owners avoid pursuing unsuitable projects.
  • Explore additional rental choices within existing communities.

What needs working through

  • Construction, servicing and compliance costs can be substantial.
  • Housing quality, parking, accessibility and neighbourhood effects need assessment.
