Roads & infrastructure

The road plan changed. Show the consequences.

Road promises need to survive contact with a project list.

About this decision

Road promises need to survive contact with a project list. Council requested lifecycle-based plans in July 2025. In March 2026 it authorized Beaconsfield and Substation conversion projects, with more costing and construction detail to follow. Staff also explained that the old Firehall design did not meet the newly adopted gravel-road policy; April minutes then cancelled that $345,000 project. This is an evolving record of choices, rather than proof that either every promise was delivered or nothing happened. Residents need updated costs, the reasoning behind changed priorities and completion evidence, with Township and County roads kept separate.

Firehall Road conversion cancelled

Resolution 22 cancels the 2025 project. The March staff explanation connects its earlier design to a policy mismatch; the replacement decision and final financial effects still need tracking.

What the evidence establishes

The choices on the table

These are editorial alternatives to test, not attributed candidate promises.

Prioritize lifecycle renewal

Editorial option: publish a condition-based renewal schedule and explain the service level protected before expanding the network of hard-surfaced roads.

Target selected gravel conversions

Editorial option: compare traffic, maintenance, drainage and lifecycle costs for named segments; show what renewal or other projects would be deferred.

  5. Approval

    Firehall Road conversion cancelled

Resolution 22 cancels the 2025 project. The March staff explanation connects its earlier design to a policy mismatch; the replacement decision and final financial effects still need tracking.

Questions that still deserve an explanation

  • What subsequent report fulfilled the July 2025 direction, and which assumptions changed?
  • What replacement approach follows the Firehall cancellation, and how will the revised policy affect cost and priority?
  • Which road segments will be delivered, to what standard, at what cost—and what is being deferred?
